The Two Rivers of Mesopotamia
Lecture by Rojda Tuğrul (Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna)
Rojda Tugrul is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher, whose practice is concerned with the
notion of identity in relation to space. In her lecture The Two Rivers of Mesopotamia she
presents her artistic research project that analyses the effects of war on ecological and cultural
heritage within the socio-political framework of Kurdish inhabited territories.
Focusing on ongoing dam projects in Southeast Turkey, she explores how power mechanisms
unfold in different relationalities and temporalities of the habitat around the Tigris and Euphrates
rivers in the context of war and displacement.
