    About

On October 20, 2024 the Republic of Moldova will simultaneously hold presidential elections and a crucial referendum on the country’s EU accession. These elections constitute a litmus test for President Maia Sandu’s pro-EU policies and her Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS). The Republic of Moldova has recently achieved major successes on its EU integration path, with the opening of accession negotiations in December 2023. At the same time, Moldova is faced with increased hybrid warfare from Russia in the wake of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Furthermore, the Transnistria issue continues to loom large.

The panel discussion will shed a light on the current atmosphere in the country, the key issues in the election campaign as well as on the security situation. Speakers will analyze current polling results and discuss potential scenarios of election outcomes and what this could mean for the future of the country, its EU accession process, and the Transnistria issue.
