The Affective Dynamics of Mass Protests

with the co-editors Bilgin Ayata and Cilja Harders and one of the authors, Derya Özkaya.

This book examines the connection between affect and emotions in protests and political transformation during and after urban mass mobilizations. Building on empirically grounded research on the occupations of Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt in early 2011 and Gezi Park at Taksim Square in Istanbul, Turkey in 2013, it examines two uprisings that have not been analyzed comprehensively with each other before. It offers novel conceptual and empirical insights by exploring the affective dynamics of urban mass protests and their capacity to “travel” across time and space in their authoritarian aftermath.

The Center for Southeast European Studies (CSEES) invites you to the book launch with the participation of its co-editors Bilgin Ayata and Cilja Harders and one of the authors, Derya Özkaya.
